A cooking phenomenon.
There are times you crave a little sweetness in the evening after the family meal. The arrowroot biscuits I had in the cupboard just weren’t cutting it for me tonight. But I had absolutely no desire to bake anything that late at night. Nor did I foresee my cravings earlier in the day to actually bake something then. That’s when I decided to embark on a little experiment and make this chocolate mug cake.
I heard of a phenomenon called Mug Cakes. Knew they existed but looked upon them with curiosity. They just seemed too good to be true. Fancy being able to make a cake in a coffee mug in the microwave! Well, I decided that my craving for something chocolate outweighed my disbelief.
It took 5 minutes to make the cake batter, and then only 1.5 minutes in the microwave. So in less than 7 minutes you can have a steaming hot chocolate mug cake to dig into with a loved one. This is where I make a public service announcement – one chocolate mug cake will happily feed two adults with a single scoop of ice cream. Well, this cake does anyway.
My overall verdict? I’m impressed. The cake was delicious. Just like a normal chocolate cake. Really flavoursome and so easy to make in a flash. Honestly, why bake a whole cake when you can make a fresh mug cake on demand. Perfect for when the cravings kick in for a dessert treat!
