Something a little fishy.
It’s amazing how versatile tuna is yet I think it’s still underutilised in many homes. Being a mum with two young kids I’m often grabbing a quick meal on the go which often consists of a can of tuna and some crackers. Tuna was also my go-to when pregnant with Emma as I found I had massive cravings for seafood. Tuna sandwiches were a must and easy to get when working in the city. But not the only way you can eat tuna. You can make tuna casseroles, tuna fish cakes, tuna salads… and tuna dip.
Since we eat a lot of tuna in this house, it wasn’t a surprise when Lisa (a workawayer from Austria) suggested we try her tuna dip. I really enjoyed it but found her version was a little plain. I was inspired by her recipe and have added my own spin on it – spicy of course. If you aren’t into spicy food, you can always omit the cayenne pepper. Instead, add a little chopped fresh parsley into it instead.
This would make a great dip to include at a dinner party. Include crackers, carrot and celery sticks for a tasty addition. If you’re looking for a healthy cracker to accompany this dip, then give here is one for you to try – Healthy Seed Crackers. They are easier to make than you’d think plus they are gluten-free, egg-free and dairy-free. Too good to be true, right?!

Spicy Tuna Dip
Ingredients
- 200 g cream cheese, softened
- 185 g tinned tuna, either in springwater or oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 small red onion, finely diced
- ½ teaspoon paprika, (optional)
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together
- Serve on crackers with a little paprika sprinkled on top, or in sandwiches with cucumber, tomato and lettuce.
Notes
- Add more cayenne pepper if you prefer a little more heat in this dish.
- This will firm up when chilled so if you want a a dip that's a little less firm, reduce the cream cheese to 150g and add 2 tablespoons of sour cream.
Keep on working, great job!
