Made with nuts.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, my kids have been getting up to A LOT of mischief. Being stuck at home meant they were getting into things they shouldn’t, often! Paint, permanent markers, glue and of course treat foods in the pantry. I’m not silly – the treat foods are on higher shelves in the pantry away from little fingers. But the kids outsmarted us and got really creative in how they would reach up. I’ve caught them bringing a dining room chair into the kitchen to use. Another time, my oldest lifted her younger sister up to get to the higher shelves. What were they trying to get? Lollies of course… or candy as they call it thanks to hours of YouTube videos, many leftover from birthday parties. Plus the box of muesli bars we had. Both of these disappeared at a rate of knots. That’s when I banned these but had to find a substitute – cue in these spiced apricot bliss balls.
What are bliss balls?
Bliss balls, sometimes referred to as protein balls, are a versatile healthy treat that can be made in so many different ways! They are often filled with energy-boosting ingredients, such as dates and nuts which make them the perfect guilt-free snack. What are great about bliss balls is that they contain no processed sugar!
We love bliss balls in our house. They make a wonderful alternative to muesli bars and other sweets making them perfect for our two naughty children. Normally I would stick with nut-free bliss balls to include in school lunches, but they’ve been “remote learning” so nuts aren’t an issue currently. Nuts are a great source of healthy fats, protein and fibre. When I saw this recipe for spiced apricot bliss balls, I wanted to give it a try. I have to admit… from all my bliss ball recipes, this is the first time I’ve incorporated spices. They add a delicious aroma and warm winter flavour.
