Buttermilk
There are times you just don't have the ingredient you need at home. It's frustrating. Buttermilk for me is one of those ingredients. I don't readily stock it in my fridge, but I have the odd recipe that calls for it. That's why making your own is handy with this substitute recipe.
Ingredient Substitute

- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice
Place a tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice in a liquid measuring cup.
Add enough milk to bring the liquid up to the one-cup line.
Let stand for five minute. Then, use as much as your recipe calls for.
If you have some heavy full cream in the fridge, you can make buttermilk using this instead. The bonus is that you'd be making REAL buttermilk and not a substitute.
