When I think of America, one of the many things that spring to mind are the cheese biscuits from Red Lobster. These make a wonderful accompaniment to your BBQ. Simple to make. Eat them hot but believe me when I say they won’t last long on the dinner table!

Getting into the kitchen with the kids is a lot of fun. Yes, crazy and chaotic but seeing them get joy from measuring and mixing ingredients is precious. Even if you don’t have kids, baking is rewarding, nostalgic and can be quite therapeutic. Besides, baking makes your kitchen smell just so good that you are taken to a different world altogether. Below is a collection of baking recipes I have made and love.
Lemon Crinkle Cookies
Firm outside, soft inside. My two daughters are involved in Girl Guides. They are actually following my footsteps as I was in Girl Guides in my youth. The camps and activities we did were some of the best memories I have to this day. This Sunday is Father’s Day and the Girl Guide unit my…
Easy Orange Cake
A whole orange. Not a typo! Oranges are plentiful, sweet and delicious at the moment. We’ve been buying them to chop up and eat at weekend sports games the girls are involved in. However, I wanted to try this easy orange cake where you literally use the whole orange. Yes, the WHOLE orange! It is…
Mini Pecan Pies
American inspired. The first time I had pecans was when one of our Workawayers (Andrea from North Carolina) made Pecan Crisp for dessert. I haven’t made that myself but will one day – it was truly delicious. A very typical American dessert is pecan pie that is commonly served during Thanksgiving. However, these mini pecan…
Caramel Cookies
Taking ownership in the kitchen. The weekends is a great time to do fun things with the kids. I love to especially get them in involved in the kitchen. With two kids, it’s like two monkeys fighting. Who gets to sift, who gets to measure. It’s chaos. So last weekend I decided that each child…
Caramelised Mini Apple Tarts
It’s no ordinary apple tart. Ask anyone to name an apple dessert and they’ll often say apple pie. A dessert that brings waves of nostalgia that’s comforting and incredibly homely. For me it also brings back memories of that famous scene during the movie “American Pie”. If you don’t know that scene, look it up…
Cake Mix Cookies
Baking in a rush. I was in the middle of doing dinner when two kids asked if we could bake some cookies. They wanted to have one after dinner for dessert. I decided to oblige. After all, my youngest asked with her puppy dog look she’s renowned for and my oldest said the word “please”….
Classic Peanut Cookies
More chopped nuts than I needed! Being in lockdown is tough. I won’t lie. We’ve gone into our second lockdown here in Sydney and I’m back occupying my time cleaning. Honestly, what else is there to do? This house may be messy thanks to the kids, but it’s the cleanest it’s been since lockdown last…
